What classifies a friend as a friend?

But what classifies a REAL friend as a friend, in the most definate of manner?
Friends are people in which you choose to spend time with and who will choose to spend time with you for enjoyment. Am i correct?
And where do they come from?
As the days of my life carry on going by I'm noticing that the further you get from school age, the harder it is to meet people and create real friendships. It's easier to make aquaintences with age but harder to form friendships.
Most people have a few close friends that they've known since school, but what happens when you are an adult and have not kept the friendships formed at school. How then, does one form friendships with people? It's no longer as easy as 'hi, I like your shoes. Do you wanna be friends?' and you can't simply go up to some person at the supermarket and say 'fancy coming over my place for some tea?'

Do friendships formed during adult life ever make it to the strength that childhood friendships do?
As for people that have been acquainted, maybe via taking or have taken part in the same activity. When comes the point in which it is ok to suggest spending some time with one another, outside of whatever situation has brought you to be acquainted?
Maybe some of us just have it in our destiny to become the crazy cat lady.

Maybe our society is ready for 'speed friendship-ing' evenings..?
Maybe not.

If anyone I know is to become a crazy cat lady you are it baby...You are it! x I think friendships made in adulthood are stronger.
ReplyDeleteAh but you are wrong Kelly. You CAN indeed go up to a person in the supermarket and say 'hi, do you fancy a cup of tea?' In fact, I have a confident male friend who does just that. Sometimes he gets metaphorically slapped, but more often than not, he makes a new friend. I'm envious of him and I achingly wish people weren't so disconnected these days. We need a revolution of connection and love. Do ya wanna start one?
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get the speed-friendshipy thing going, let me know, I'll be your first client! I'll be ya friend too.
Disconnected. You are right there Another Animal. These days most of the people you even look at in the supermarket return your gaze with on of contempt and suspect...
